Life is Like a Coffee Maker

Title sounds silly, doesn't it? lol Today I bought a little 5 cup coffee maker to fill my caffeine needs as I enter into a very grueling semester in some very cold weather. I brought it to my house and immediately opened the box, cleaned the little machine and started brewing. It sputtered, made some rather rude loud noises and wasted about half an hour, only producing two miserable little cups of the black beverage. I thought to myself "it's just the newness, it'll work better the next time for sure". I then heard the remaining water in the holding compartment boiling and bubbling away. This didn't seem right by any means! I was slightly frustrated with my purchase, even though it was a relatively good deal, and decided to exchange it. Then I was thinking, why is this machine different from the one I might exchange it for? Couldn't it perform just as well as any other? It was given all the same parts and attention as any of the others on the shelf.  As it turned out, it was a hose pinched off that wasn't letting the hot water rise and fall through the filter basket. A little time (and a bit of my natural ingenuity) and I had it working like a charm.

You may be wondering how this story relates to anyone's life. Well the way I see it, the coffee maker is someone living in this world with so much potential, just as much or more then the person beside him/her. This person goes through life down heartened and discouraged, maybe a little depressed or a feeling of not being loved. Perhaps this person just has more 'bad days' then usual. Doesn't work very well, takes twice as long to do less then half as much as everyone else. Rejection. Feelings and emotions just seem to boil inside, they aren't shared, they're just 'dealt' with.  All it might take is a little kindness shown toward this (shall we say friend? much more appropriate then 'person') to make them perform at full capacity. A little love and support might help them to let out their problems and let their true light shine for all to enjoy. You'll never enjoy the coffee if you don't help the problems go away.

Perhaps just saying a cheerful "hi" to someone on the street who looks like they could use a friend would make a major difference in their life. Who knows.... it's just a thought.
